Pendragon Film Project

Below are some ideas on the characters that will feature in the film.

Arthur/Ambrosius (Born 465 AD)

At the beginning of this project Arthur was going to be a separate character to Ambrosius Aurelianus. However, there is a great deal of evidence to suggest that Ambrosius was the historical basis for Arthur. Both Arthur and Ambrosius are suggested as being leaders of the force of Romano British that defeat the Saxons at the Battle of Badon Hill (496 AD).

Gwenhwyfar (468 AD)

In our film Gwenhwyfar will be the daughter of Vortimer/Cunedda. Although there is no evidence that she was the daughter of legendary Welsh hero, Cunedda, he did have a daughter called Gwen.

Lancelot/Bedwyr (467 AD)

Some modern authors such as Rosemary Sutcliff, Gillian Bradshaw, John M. Ford, Mary Stewart and Helen Hollick have given Bedwyr Lancelot's traditional role as Guinevere's lover. It is our opinion that Lancelot has been added to the Arthurian cycle too late to be seen as historical, but can be placed in the film as Bedwyr.

Emrys/Ectha (445 AD)

In a great deal of literature, Ambrosius Aurelianus is turned into the younger brother of Uther Pendragon and is christened with the British name of Emrys. In our project the character of Emrys will be Uther's brother but will have no Roman name. He will keep his believe of the ideals of Rome and will be Arthur's foster father, who will name the boy Ambrosius Aurelianus. With this in mind the character may be called Ectha, which is the Welsh name for Ector, who was the foster father of Arthur in many of the legends. The character will have looked after Arthur until the age of fifteen when the boy's true parentage is revealed.
