The Mists Of Avalon |
||||
| "...Morgan
le Fay was not married, but put to school in a nunnery, where she became a
great mistress of magic." (Malory, Morte d'Arthur)
The late Marion Zimmer Bradley's book is arguably the most popular of all the Arthurian novels to be published in the 20th century. While TH White's Once and Future King will be read by thousands of American schoolchildren every year, The Mists of Avalon is a far more interesting take on the Arthurian legends for most adults. Although it may not have the greatly descriptive battle scenes and grittiness of both Helen Hollick and Bernard Cornwell, it has a mystical and almost dreamlike quality to it. AC It was made for television in 2001 but received a critical mauling. |
