Lancelot

In medieval Arthurian tales Lancelot is a knight who comes to Britain from overseas and becomes King Arthur's champion. His most influential part in the tales is the love affair that develops between him and Arthur's wife, Guinevere.

In some modern historically based fiction Lancelot has been left out in favour of Bedivere a character who may even have existed in the dark ages.

In John Boorman's 1981 film, Excalibur, Lancelot is portrayed by Nicholas Clay. In the mini-series, The Mists of Avalon, he is played by American actor Michael Vartan.
