The late Nicholas Clay starred as Lancelot in John Boorman's 1981 film, Excalibur, and went on to have a smaller part in Merlin. For me he will always be Lancelot. I first saw a PG version of the film at the age of ten and it influenced me greatly. I was fortunate enough to meet Nicholas on the set of Merlin in 1998 and he came across as a charming man. Like all fans of Excalibur I was saddened to hear of his death from cancer in 2000.
