Uther Pendragon (Played by Anthony Head)

Uther is the King of Albion, the father of Prince Arthur and the ward of Lady Morgana. Although he is no tyrant, he is not universally liked among his people mainly because of his outlawing of magic. He banished people with magical abilities from his kingdom after his wife Igrayne, died in childbirth. He blamed the priestess Nimueh for the death as it was her who helped the Queen to conceive.

Legend/Historical

Uther is first mentioned in old Welsh poems, but the most traditional view of Uther comes from his depiction in Geoffrey of Monmouth's 'History of the Kings of Britain.' Uther Pendragon is in nearly all Arthurian tales the father of Arthur. Some have even stated that he and Ambrosius Aurelianus are the same person and that Uther is just a name used for 'The Last Roman' by Welsh storytellers. More...
