Episode 9/13 ~ Excalibur (15th November 2008)

Plot ~ The time has come for Prince Arthur to be officially declared Uther's heir to the throne of Camelot! However,  the ceremony is interrupted by the strange appearance of a black knight.

This turns out to be Arthur's uncle, Tristan and he challenges Camelot's warriors, but it is Uther that he is after. Both Sir Owain and Sir Pellinore are killed by Tristan despite having both delivered what would normally have been fatal blows during their fights. Arthur then takes up his uncle's challenge.

It transpires that Tristan blames the King for the death of his sister Igrayne in childbirth. From conversations between Gaius and Uther it becomes apparent that the King used the magical help of Nimueh to help his wife conceive. Uther had killed Tristan in a duel some twenty years earlier but now Nimueh has brought him back as a wraith. The sorceress was once loyal to the King but is now after revenge for Uther's persecution of her people.

Merlin then goes to find a weapon that can kill the dead. He is given the best sword forged by Gwen's father and he then takes it to the Great Dragon who's breathe gives the weapon great power. The dragon warns Merlin that the sword can only be wielded by Arthur. However, Uther and Gaius are already conspiring to stop Arthur from fighting. Can Merlin get the sword to the Prince before Uther can make a terrible error?
