Episode 2.9 ~ The Lady Of The Lake (21st November 2009)

Written by Julian Jones

Directed by Metin Huseyin

Plot ~ Merlin and Gaius come across a Druid girl, Freya (Laura Donnelly) who is being held in the cage of a bounty hunter called Halig (Richard Ridings).

Gaius warns Merlin from helping the girl but the young wizard doesn't listen and rescues her. He takes her to a place in the castle where she can't be found and gets food for her. Merlin and Freya start to make a connection and Merlin discusses helping her to escape.

Halig informs King Uther that the girl is missing and then sets out to find her. He suspects that Merlin is involved but Arthur stops the bounty hunter. Halig tells Uther that the Druids had turned the girl out of their camp because she was cursed.

Meanwhile, it appears that a wild animal has been killing people during the night. However, Gaius believes that the creature could be a magical monster. Soon Arthur and his knights are battling with a monstrous winged creature.

Merlin and Freya begin to fall in love and even kiss. However, eventually Merlin confesses to Gaius that he has been helping the girl and Gaius decides to go to the King. Merlin runs to find Freya but she has gone from her hiding place. Can Merlin get her safely away from Camelot and what is her connection to the monster?
