Igraine (Igrayne, Ygrainne)

 

 

She is the mother of Arthur Pendragon in just about all Arthurian tales. She was married to Gorlois, Duke of Cornwall, but after being fooled into laying with Uther she gives birth to Arthur.

She has little part to play in the novels by Helen Hollick and Bernard Cornwell but is central to the beginning of MZB's Mists of Avalon.
