Guinevere (Gwenhwyfar)

In most tales she is the daughter of Leondegrance, King of the Camelyarde. She marries Arthur Pendragon and betrays him when she has an affair with Lancelot. In Helen Hollick's trilogy she is the daughter of the legendary Gwynedd King, Cunedda. 

In a change from many tales Guinevere actually meets Lancelot before Arthur in Marion Zimmer Bradley's best selling novel 'The Mists of Avalon.'

Gwenhwyfar is played by Cherie Lunghi in John Boorman's Excalibur and by Lena Headey in the TV mini-series, Merlin.
